INTERESTED IN JOINING?
Anyone from the age of 13 to 103 can join - if you are a singer in the Tenor/Baritone/Bass range. Higher voices (Soprano and Alto) are accepted as needed in order to achieve balance between sections.
You don't have to be able to read music, you don't have to have a trained voice, and you don't have to be a solo singer. As a matter of fact, it's best if your voice can blend in with everyone else's voice so that we have a balanced mix.
What we DO require is that you can sing in tune, you can sing in harmony with others, and you LOVE to sing!
REHEARSAL SPACE AND TIME:
We practice weekly, on Tuesday evenings, at St. Laurence Anglican Church in Coquitlam. The address of the church is 825 St. Laurence Street, Coquitlam - just off Como Lake Road.
**FOR FALL/WINTER 2024/25, we are rehearsing IN PERSON**
Rehearsals run from 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Typically we run from the second week of September, break for December, then resume in January and go until the end of May/first week of June. We have now shifted our concert timing slightly, with the first concert AFTER the December break, in late January/early February, and the second concert of the year still in late May/early June. Each term has 16 rehearsal sessions and a concert.
AUDITIONS:
An audition for the choir consists of meeting the director, and singing a song for him... any song you know, like Happy Birthday, Amazing Grace, O Canada, etc. That way he can hear your vocal range and place you in the section of the choir most appropriate for your voice. If you already know that you are a soprano, alto, tenor or bass, that's great but in case you are not sure, this is a good way for you to find out. The director will also sing some harmony along with you, as singing a simple vocal part in tune while someone close to you sings a different one is a primary musical skill needed to be a choral singer.
Auditions for the FALL/WINTER 2024/25 Term of the Coquitlam Celebration Choir will take place at the first rehearsal on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th, 2024 (either before or after the rehearsal). *New members can still join up until Tues Sept 24th*
Please contact us here if you have any questions: [email protected]
FEES*:
Fees for joining the choir are:
$175 for the Fall/Winter term (16 rehearsals from Tuesday Sept 10 - Jan 28, with a break during December and our concert on Saturday February 1, 2025)
'*Anyone with financial concerns can speak confidentially with the director to arrange a modified payment scale
